Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships for Foreign Scholars & Artists
Switzerland offers world-class research infrastructure and hosting environments. To promote international cooperation and exchange, the Swiss Confederation awards the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships to postgraduate researchers, PhD candidates, and postdoctoral scholars worldwide.
These scholarships are fully funded and cover tuition, health insurance, and provide a monthly living stipend.
Scholarship Benefits and Categories
- PhD Scholarship: Aimed at students wishing to complete a full-time PhD in Switzerland. Provides a monthly stipend of CHF 1,920 for up to three years.
- Postdoctoral Scholarship: For researchers holding a PhD. Provides a monthly stipend of CHF 3,500 for one year.
- Art Scholarships: Aimed at art students wishing to pursue an advanced Master's degree in Switzerland.
Eligibility and Application Requirements
To apply for a Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship, you must:
- Hold a Master's degree (for PhD applications) or a PhD (for postdoctoral applications) with outstanding grades.
- Be under 35 years of age at the time of application.
- Submit a detailed Research Proposal indicating the academic significance and feasibility of your research.
- Have a written confirmation from a Swiss university professor indicating they are willing to supervise your research.
Key Deadlines
- Applications must be submitted to the Swiss Embassy in your home country.
- The deadline varies by country but is typically between September and December for the following academic year starting in September.
